The Danish Girl Receives four Oscar Nominations - Transgender Universe

The Oscar nominations for the 88th Academy Awards were announced this morning giving four nominations to The Danish Girl. The nominations include best actor, best actress in a supporting role, costume design and production design.

As Lili, Eddie Redmayne portrays an artist torn by the societal norms and restrictions of the early 20th century while trying to transition from male to female. Redmayne was previously a winner for best actor for his rople in The Theory Of Everything (2014).

 

 

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE: Alicia VikanderAlicia Vikander - Oscars -Transgender Universe

Alicia Vikander plays Gerda, a painter in the 1920s who wrestles with her course of action when her husband reveals his desire to live as a woman. This is the first Academy Award nomination for Alicia Vikander.

This is the second Academy Award nomination for Paco Delgado. He was previously nominated forLES MISÉRABLES (2012).

 

 

 

The Danish Girl - Oscars - Transgender UniversePRODUCTION DESIGN: Eve Stewart (Production Design); Michael Standish (Set Decoration)

This is the fourth Academy Award nomination for Eve Stewart. She was previously nominated for LES MISÉRABLES (2012), THE KING’S SPEECH (2010) and TOPSY-TURVY (1999).

This is the first Academy Award nomination for Michael Standish.

While it was a good day for The Danish Girl it was a shutout for Oscar hopeful Tangerine. This was despite the efforts of notable transgender celebrities such as Caitlyn Jenner and Laverne Cox. Tangerine was an independent film which was shot entirely using an iPhone. It featured transgender actresses Kitana Kiki Rodriguez and Mya Taylor.

The 88th Academy Awards airs Sunday, February 28th at 7:00 Eastern on ABC.
