Acceptance of LGBT kids is the beginning to making our kids safe and to feel respected. They deserve to be treated fairly and the same as any other person. Our kids are not monsters or abominations. The true abomination is a person who claims to follow the most forgiving, loving man ever spoken of and yet show hate towards another. Allowing another person to be their true authentic self is not hard. People need to quit focusing on genitals and should focus on the heart and show love and acceptance. Respect is not hard to freely give or to accept.

“It is honestly sad at how many people will quickly correct you when you call their dog by the wrong pronoun, but when it comes to a person, they want to see a document from birth..”

It is honestly sad at how many people will quickly correct you when you call their dog by the wrong pronoun, but when it comes to a person, they want to see a document from birth decrying their anatomy or that they want/need to “see” that actual anatomy; nonsensical! Our kids should not have to think and feel that death is their only option. LGBT kids face a higher suicide attempt and completion rate than non-LGBT kids. A parent should NEVER have to experience this loss. A mother of a trans person in a group I am a member of had to face the death of their child last week. And why? The non-acceptance and hate being spewed, and all of the daily issues transgender people are facing today, heightened by the media coverage including bullying from ADULTS!

Death Should Not Be an Option - Trans Families - Melissa Ballard - Transgender UniverseCan you imagine how hard our trans teens have it right now? Imagine your own kids being hated and dismissed for just wanting to be whom they feel they really are…hated for being different. We all want our kids to thrive and grow. We want them to experience life to the fullest…ALL of us want this regardless of their gender or any differences they may have. When a child takes their own life, we [the community] have failed them. A person should not have to experience the horrible things I have heard people say, have seen people write and know that people do to members of the LGBT community. Our government believes this, as do many other cultures where a “third gender” or “non-binary” presentation is openly accepted and often revered. If you are not familiar with these cultures please educate yourself. Native Americans refer to trans as “two-spirit” and Nepal has what they call “Meti” or third gender. The Dominican Republic has a predominant island where the people are called “Guevedoche”, India recognizes the “Hirjas”. This is not a new thing – people have lived this way (mostly in hiding) for many, many years. The fact that people are becoming braver to live as their true self and more acceptance shown worldwide is what is bringing this to the forefront. Oh, and same sex marriage was passed last year in the US, so there now must be a new “Target” – pun intended!

“If you have even the slightest bit of an open mind, stand up against the hate.”

If you have even the slightest bit of an open mind, stand up against the hate. Show your love and kindness in any way possible. Share an affirming story or meme – not a hateful one. Rise up against the bathroom nonsense going on around the US right now. All in all, just imagine this was your own loved one…imagine that this hate was being shown towards your own child, or potential grandchild or anyone you loved. No one should have to live with the death of a loved one that felt rejected by the world. NO ONE!
