Chris Mosier to Be the First Transgender Athlete in ESPN’s Body Issue - Transgender Universe - ESPN - Sports

Chris Mosier was the first transgender athlete to make the U.S. National team as a duathlete. He now becomes the first transgender athlete to appear in ESPN’s Body issue.

“NOW I FEEL VERY COMFORTABLE IN MY OWN SKIN.”

“I have wanted to be in the Body Issue for over a year. I think the reason I felt so inspired to do it is that I’m finally at a place where I feel very comfortable with my body. And as a trans person, being in a body that didn’t really fit me for 29 years, now I feel very comfortable in my own skin.” Mosier told ESPN.

The 35 year old Chicago native has been no stranger to making history. On Sunday, June 7, 2015 Mosier made sports history by finishing seventh out of eighth in his age class, and 37th out of 117 athletes in the run-bike-run sprint duathlon as the first transgender man to compete for the U.S National team. He is a transgender activist and the founder of TransAthlete.com, a site dedicated to educating and helping trans athletes. He is also the executive director of GO! Athletes, the largest support network for LGBT student athletes.

The Body Issue is an edition of ESPN The Magazine that features athletes in nude and semi-nude photographs in the vein of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue. The first issue debuted on October 9, 2009. The 2016 edition featuring Mosier will be out in stores on July 6th. In addition to Chris Mosier, Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade, Super Bowl MVP Von Miller and Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta are also among the star athletes to appear in this year’s edition.
